Why CryptoFriendlySA became BitcoinFriendlySA

CryptoFriendlySA changes its name to BitcoinFriendlySA.

Why CryptoFriendlySA became BitcoinFriendlySA

A few months ago, I launched this site, CryptoFriendlySA: an initiative to map out the local businesses in South Africa that accept any cryptocurrencies and explore the growing crypto landscape.

Since then, I've met with some of the players in the industry, written several blog posts for the Academy, and learned a helluva lot about the crypto and Bitcoin payment landscape. It's been incredibly rewarding and exciting.

As the project developed, I found myself drawn to a simpler, more focused path. Bitcoin stood out not just because of its growing real-world use and qualities of sound money, but because of the clarity it brought to the project. And so CryptoFriendlySA became BitcoinFriendlySA—a natural evolution toward focusing solely on Bitcoin.

You'll notice a few simple tweaks on the site such as all other coins (besides Bitcoin) being removed from the listings, an updated About page, a hero section on the Home page that now reads "Discover who accepts Bitcoin in SA," a heading at the top of the Academy page that reads "Bitcoin-Friendly Reads," and several other smaller copy tweaks to pages and blog posts.

All old URLs will redirect to new ones to make sure I don't lose any of the SEO value I've obtained over the past few months.

But there is still a lot to do with me having to do things like design a new logo on Looka, update my social media (you may have noticed the slight change to the Twitter handle already ;), setting up a new GA4 property and Search Console profile, updating open graph images, setting up my new email and, yes, finishing a blog post on why businesses in SA should accept Bitcoin.

Bit by bit, it's all coming together, and I'm excited to see where this new path takes me.

Cheers,

Nick Darlington
